Ten Minutes with Richard Teng: The Man Tipped to Lead Binance

October in Dubai is quite the spectacle, especially when you're at the Future of Blockchain Summit, part of the GITEX 2023. It's where the who's who of the blockchain world drop wisdom on everything from market trends to policy talk.

To be honest, after the umpteenth chat on regulatory frameworks and DeFi innovations, things were starting to blur together. But that was until Richard Teng, (who was the head of Regional Markets, Binance) added something new to the usual talks.

Honestly, Teng didn't rock the boat with his talk — it was more of the same industry chatter, to be fair. However, once the applause died down and he exited the stage, that's where the real story took off. We happened to walk off in the same direction, and I figured, why not?

"Hey, I’m from..." I began, throwing out a handshake. His grip was lighter than I expected — no power move, just the simple greeting of a guy who seemed more at home outside the limelight. "I'm Richard," he said.

Like most journalists would, I brought up Binance’s issues in the US. Teng avoided giving any deep details, saving the big business talk for another time and place.

There was some typical friendly deflecting before he shared this gem, "It's great when what you believe in aligns with what you do every day." That one stuck with me — a personal philosophy from the head of a crypto juggernaut.

And just like that, he was on to the next handshake, the next attendee wanting a moment. The summit buzzed on, panels rolled by, but that encounter proved that sometimes the quietest conversations are the ones worth having.
